Era of fraudulent allocation of votes over – Buhari

Era of fraudulent allocation of votes over – Buhari

The President stated this on Monday when he received members of the Joint United Nations, African Union and ECOWAS Good Offices Mission on Elections, at the State House, Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria has left that era in which democratic norms are brazenly subverted, with votes awarded to those favoured by the authorities, and the shortchanged told to go to court for redress.

The President stated this on Monday when he received members of the Joint United Nations, African Union and ECOWAS Good Offices Mission on Elections, at the State House, Abuja.

“I am highly qualified to talk on this, having ended in Supreme Court three times, after participating in elections with disputed results.

“Where will a man looking for where his next meal would come from, have money to hire lawyers, particularly senior advocates?” the President said.

He reassured that the 2019 polls would be free and fair.

President Buhari added: “The President has only one vote, governors have a vote each, just like anybody else.

“Let the people vote for whoever they choose, without their will being tampered with.’’

According to him, multi-party democracy gives lots of choice to the people, and Nigeria has a vibrant young population, who trusted his administration to handle their affairs and resources well.

“A lot depends on leadership,’’ he said.

He thanked the joint team for being in touch with the nation’s institutions, particularly the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

President Buhari said the 2015 elections were run with three campaign objectives; securing the country, reviving the economy, fighting corruption,” and the opposition has not succeeded in faulting us. We are doing our best with the resources available to us.”

President of ECOWAS Commission, Jean-Claude Brou, said the team came on a solidarity visit to Nigeria before the forthcoming elections, as it did with other countries like Senegal, Mali, Gambia, among others which recently held polls.

He appreciated the strong role Nigeria played in the sub-region, while also thanking President Buhari for his strides in the fight against corruption and terrorism.

Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, who spoke on behalf of the UN, appreciated what he called “the strong leadership of President Buhari in Nigeria, West Africa, and Africa.”

He said: “You’ve always played politics according to the rules. We will do all that we can to strengthen the institutions.

“We’re convinced that INEC is ready to provide free and fair elections.’’

Ezekwesili urges Nigerians to make the right leadership decision in 2019

The presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Oby Ezekwesili has urged Nigerians to make right leadership decision in 2019.

Ezekwesili also called in Nigerians to vote for somebody who will bring hope to the people and not despair.

The presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Oby Ezekwesili has urged Nigerians to make right leadership decision in 2019.

The co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG), said this on Monday, October 29, 2018 at a press conference which she held in Lagos state.

She also called in Nigerians to vote for somebody who will bring hope to the people and not despair.

Disruption

Ezekwesili said she is in the presidential race to disrupt the cycle of bad leadership and also restore hope to Nigerians.

“I am in the race to disrupt the cycle of bad leadership and give hope to Nigerians. I am the candidate of the people, I know the job and have records of achievements.

“I have excelled in corporate Nigeria, I have excelled in private enterprise and in international development, and in all I have done, there has never been an allegation of corruption against me, let alone having a case.

“I am the choice of a better Nigeria, I am the candidate of the people. I will serve the people, I will move the country forward,” the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Atiku lacks moral capacity

The former minister of education also took a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar saying that he lacks the moral capacity to lead Nigeria.

According to Ezekwesili, the PDP’s 16-year rule was characterised by impunity and corruption.

Oby Ezekwesili calls Buhari, Atiku agents of failure, disappointment

Dr Oby Ezekwesili

The former Minister of Education believes there is no lesser evil between the president and former vice president.

Presidential candidate, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, has described her opponents in the 2019 general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar, as agents of failure and disappointment who have nothing new to offer Nigerians.

The candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) attacked both Buhari of the All Progressives' Congress (APC) and Atiku, a former vice president, of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) while delivering a speech in Lagos on Monday, October 29, 2018.

During the speech, titled "To those who say we cannot win: Unveiling the Oby Ezekwesili Roadmap to 2019", the former Minister of Education said there is no lesser evil between Buhari and Atiku.

She further warned Nigerians that deciding to choose between the two is like choosing between death by poison or death by gunshot. She urged Nigerians to reject their stranglehold on the nation and look towards the future with a better-qualified candidate like her.

She said, "Buhari and Atiku are conjoined from head to toe as #BuTiku. There is no lesser evil in #BuTiku. #BuTiku are members of the same party.

"Attempting to choose between these two is like asking one to choose between death by poison or death by gunshot. God forbid. We cannot reject one oppressor and hand over to another oppressor. We do not love bondage. We do not enjoy suffering. God in heaven forbid.

"I just laugh when I hear some people say our citizens movement will split opposition votes.

"But the PDP is not in opposition to the APC. The candidate of the PDP has over the past 14 years gone from PDP to AC, AC to PDP, PDP to APC and now back to PDP.

"These people are brothers and sisters of iniquity and impoverishment, merchants of failure and disappointment. Don' t believe that 419! They are both part of a political ruling class that has held us bound, manipulated and diminished us for decades.

"Now they are auditioning to extend their streak of failure for another four years? God really forbid! The real opponent that the Nigerian people have in 2019 is this old political order that takes and takes and takes, and never replenishes anything."

Don't pretend you have no choice other than Atiku, Buhari – Ezekwesili warns Nigerians

With the 2019 presidential election widely-believed to be a straight contest between Buhari and Atiku, Ezekwesili warned Nigerians to not feel trapped by the narrative that only one of the two candidates can realistically win.

She said she was inspired to join the race because she realised Nigeria is in dire need of qualified candidates, a responsibility she felt compelled to accept.

She said her wealth of experience littered with credible achievements in public service, as well as untainted integrity sets her apart from the two candidates who are considered the frontrunners.

She said, "I decided to join this race because I wanted you, and me, to have no excuse. We have in this race a candidate who has excelled in Corporate Nigeria, excelled in national government, excelled in private enterprise, excelled in international development, and then dedicated her life to fighting for every Nigerian from Chibok to Jos, from Abia to Ikot Ekpene.

"A candidate who is one of the very small tribe of Nigerians who have served in government but who have no allegation of corruption against them. I don't mean court case o. I mean allegation. Zero. None. Not one.

"I want to be sure you know that the choice is between on one hand #BuTiku, a ticket which includes a man who insults your intelligence by asking you to go get his WAEC certificate from the armed forces of which he is the commander in chief and another man who cannot tell you where he got the start up capital for his alleged multi-million dollar businesses; and on the other hand a woman whose track record is filled with concrete achievenments in education, solid minerals, public procurement and international development; a woman who has been fighting for this country every day of her life for the past 30 years – from being attacked on the streets of Lagos fighting for the June 12, 1993 mandate to taking up the challenge of this government and, at great risk to myself, visiting Sambisa Forest personally to fight for our still missing #ChibokGirls.

"That is why, with a heavy but resolute heart, with a deep sense of responsibility but a clear understanding that I am entering into uncharted waters, I decided that I had no choice, that we have waited too long, and it is time for us to get in and fix this country ourselves.

"So don't pretend you have no choice. You do. And it is not one between the devil and the deep blue sea."

The presidential candidate urged Nigerians to wake up to their responsibilities and elect credible leaders into important positions so as to salvage the nation's future. She also called on everyone to donate towards her campaign and volunteer to work for its success.

2019: PRP, progressive forces won’t align with any group

The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Alhaji Balarabe Musa and Senator Shehu Sani

Musa, a former Governor of Kaduna State, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Alhaji Balarabe Musa, says the party and other progressives will not align with any political party for the 2019 general elections.

Musa, a former Governor of Kaduna State, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.

He said that any party that wanted an alignment with the progressive forces like PRP, should know exactly what the party stood for.

No party has approached me to join forces with them, but the issue of realignment is ongoing.

“I have friends who are top members of the two major political parties and the parties know that they can’t make it alone; they are bankrupt.

“So they really want alliances to deceive the people; they are now making approaches.

“Some are consulting directly with even material inducement; in cases where they can’t use material inducement they try to use democratic alliances.

“So I want to warn them that as far as I am concerned, we will not be involved in alliances with any of the group until the group knows exactly what we stand for.

“They must also know the minimum performance requirements for governance in Nigeria,” Musa said.

According to the BoT chairman, his concern now is the nation first.

The former governor further said that any group that wanted to relate with the progressive forces to some extent must meet the five fundamental needs of Nigerians.

He said the group must put into consideration the fundamental conditions for peaceful all-round development of Nigeria.

Musa said Nigerians needed free, compulsory and qualitative primary and secondary education and easily available post-secondary education throughout Nigeria.

He said elections should be allowed to be free, fair and credible so that it can lead to legitimate governance at every level.

The Kaduna state born politician emphasised that voters had the capacity to decide the fate of any political party and election candidates.

He stressed that there must be leading role of the state in economy to ensure peace, equality, justice, dignity of the human person and progressive and even development of the whole country.

Musa said also that there was the need for a socialist reconstruction of Nigeria.

5 ways Fashola attacked Goodluck Jonathan at Town hall

5 ways Fashola attacked Goodluck Jonathan at Town hall

Babatunde Fashola went for Goodluck Jonathan and the administration he led, at a recent town hall. Here are the highlights.

Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, tore into former President Goodluck Jonathan (without actually calling him by name) at a town hall meeting which held at the Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, opposite University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, October 25, 2018.

Jonathan of the PDP quickly conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari of the APC long before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) formally announced the winner of the 2015 presidential election.

The former president has been hailed as heroic for that singular act.

Fashola had the following to say about Jonathan at the townhall:

1. Fashola says Jonathan ran Nigeria aground

The minister says when the Buhari administration assumed the reins in 2015, all it inherited were tons of debts.

His words were: “What was left behind were massive debts owed to contractors who had not been paid for three to five years and who had laid off thousands of workers and shut down equipment and plants”.

2. Jonathan spent a lot less on infrastructure, according to Fashola

Fashola says: “In a country where the population is growing faster than the infrastructure, the difference between these budgets must tell you that this government is more serious about providing infrastructure to support you.

“Another feature of the difference between these two budget sizes is that the last government was spending less on infrastructure for almost one decade when oil prices stayed at $100 per barrel during that decade.

“This government is spending more on infrastructure when oil prices largely hovered between $40-$60.”

3. Nigerians shouldn’t return to PDP, Fashola advises

Given how much the Buhari administration has pumped into critical infrastructure, re-electing the APC should be a no brainer, Fashola says.

“So, if you need more roads, more bridges, more power, more housing and the job opportunities and prosperity that their delivery will bring, your choice in the next election should be easier”, Fashola says.

“Don’t go back to a budget of N25.2 billion for infrastructure, move forward with a budget for infrastructure which has grown to N529 billion in 2018.

“So, in making your choice, please consider who is the better manager. The one who did less with more or the one who did more with less?”

4. Fashola says he knows why Jonathan hurriedly conceded

According to Fashola, Jonathan quickly conceded because he knew Nigeria was fast heading into a recession, having mismanaged the economy so badly.

“That was one of the reasons why the economy first went into a recession, and, I suspect, one of the reasons they (Goodluck administration) quickly conceded defeat”, Fashola says.

Nigeria emerged from its worst recession in 29 years in September of 2017.

5. The APC is devoting more to infrastructure

“In 2017, the All Progressive Congress (APC) led administration budget for works was N394 billion; power was N69.96 billion and housing was N64.9 billion (total- N529 billion) and oil price hovered between $40-$60 per barrel", Fashola says.

Fashola served as Governor of Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital, from 2007 to 2015. He has come under scathing criticism for not being able to fix Nigeria's perennial electricity problem since the APC took over power from the PDP in 2015.

"We should not assume that we can win even with massive rigging", APC Senator warns party

APC's Senator Ibrahim says 2019 elections will be difficult

The lawmaker believes rigging the elections might not even be enough to save the party from defeat in 2019.

Senator Bukar Ibrahim (Yobe East – APC) has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) about the party's chances of victory in the 2019 general elections, slating the party's performance since 2015.

While speaking at a dinner to mark his 70th birthday on Saturday, October 27, 2018, the former Yobe State governor said the party should brace itself for a close battle because it has failed to fulfil its many promises to the nation.

He said the party is no longer any better than the People's Democratic Party (PDP), noting that rigging the elections might not even be enough to save the party from defeat in 2019 despite coasting to victory just three years ago on the massive goodwill of Nigerians.

He said, "Without mincing words, as an elder statesman, I must say that my dreams and hopes have been dashed.

"We have certainly not done what I dreamed we would do and in many ways, we are no better than the PDP that we seek to displace.

"As we move towards the elections, I have to give a dire warning to the APC. Things are no longer the way they were in 2015 when we rode to power on a cloud of euphoria believing that things will change.

"Simply put, things have not changed and many things are worse and the people are bitter. We should not assume that we can win even with massive rigging."

APC needs to improve to win in 2019 – Senator Ibrahim

The lawmaker said nothing will stop him from instructing his followers in the northeast to vote for a different party in 2019 if the APC does not clean up its act and improve in every aspect of governance.

He said, "Let the North-East not be taken for granted that we must support the APC. Our interest in the North-East has always been progressive and I will personally be watching for improvement in the APC.

"Improvements that will guarantee us the victory (should) include respecting the rule of law and releasing political prisoners. If we are fighting corruption, let us fight every corrupt person and not select people in what may be seen as a one-sided witch-hunt.

"I shall sit back and continue encouraging my party to do the right thing. But if we don't, I still reserve the capacity to ask my people to go our separate ways and do what must be done for good governance to reign in Nigeria."

Senator Ibrahim will not contest in the 2019 elections after he conceded his senatorial seat to incumbent governor, Ibrahim Geidam, who'll contest on the party's platform next year.

He served as Yobe governor between 1999 and 2007 and has served three terms in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly since then.
