PDP's presidential candidate likely to fail because of "huge baggage" - Donald Duke

Donald Duke considers himself a better option among 76 candidates aspiring for the presidency in the 2019 polls.

Donald Duke thinks performing in office is a potential problem for any candidate representing the PDP because of the party's "huge baggage".

According to Duke who is contesting at the 2019 polls under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) platform, there is an issue of massive corruption to deal with as the flag bearer of the PDP.

"Even if I had emerged as the PDP presidential flag bearer, and win the election, the huge baggage the party carries will not allow me to do well.

"The corruption is huge. You need to be completely unshackled to perform amidst such obstacles without being pulled down," Donald Duke a former Cross River State governor says this on Thursday, November 22, 2018, while addressing reporters in Lagos.

In a report by Vanguard News, he analysed that a majority of President Buhari's All Progressives Congress (APC) are individuals who crossed from the PDP.

He reckons this is a reason why the incumbent has found it rough in his campaign against corruption.

"You can see that President Muhammadu Buhari, with his stern stand on corruption, is still finding it difficult to navigate smoothly because it is the same corrupt persons that we are still battling. They simply joined APC from PDP," says Duke who is quoted by Vanguard.

The SDP's presidential candidate has urged interest in a discussion around the center topics affecting Nigeria and avoid a repetition of past errors.

Any bad decision can mean a disastrous period for the country.

"2019 is around the corner. The choice that Nigerians make is what they have to live with.

"I hope we don’t descend into what happened in 2015, as I can see it coming again. We should talk about things that affect us. Those are levels we should elevate our campaigns to."

According to Vanguard, Donald Duke thinks himself a candidate with "a pedigree of being the head of a state" among 76 candidates aspiring for the presidency in the 2019 polls.
