PDP spent $3bn from government treasury on 2015 elections - Obasanjo

A former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, applauded the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on his cultural responsibility during his turbaning ceremony as the 7th 'Wazirin Adamawa' on Sunday, November 25.

Obasanjo, who attended the ceremony, stated that Atiku has always been "cultured and a cultural person". He added that his former deputy will carry out any responsibility he is given with dignity.

He said, "When we were in Abuja and dealing with the affairs of governance, you did not take lightly cultural affairs back home. By every standard, you are a cultured and a cultural person. Whatever responsibility you have at the national and international level, I know you will carry this new office with respect and dignity."

Atiku, who referred to the former president as his boss, thanked Obasanjo for his contribution to his mentoring.

The PDP presidential flag bearer, who also celebrated his 72nd birthday on the same day, appreciated the Adamawa emirate council for conferring him with the new title which makes him second in command in the emirate.

Lamido of Adamawa tasks Atiku to carry everyone along

Speaking at the occasion, the Lamido of Adamawa said Atiku was honoured with the title of Waziri because of his immense contributions to the development of Nigeria, particularly Adamawa State, where his impact was felt in various sectors.

"Atiku has also contributed greatly to unifying the people of Adamawa and providing useful advise to the emirate.

"The position of Waziri, which is the highest in the council puts him in charge of administration of the emirate and is given to people who are educated, honest and God fearing. It's not hereditary and can go to anyone who deserves it."

While urging the new Waziri to continue to carry everyone along and unite the people of Adamawa for more development, Barkindo urged all other traditional title holders to cooperate with the new Waziri.
